Applications Engineer

ESS is looking for a highly motivated Android Kernel Developer to help expand our software team.  Over the past several years our chipsets have been making their way into many different types of mobile devices.  ESS would like to provide custom firmware and driver solutions to customers who are looking to integrate our chipsets with minimal development time.  If you have a passion to create and love working with both software and hardware, then this is the perfect job for you.

Areas of Responsibility:

  • Work with the hardware team to understand the inner workings of our chipsets.
  • Create custom kernel modules that can configure and utilize the features of ESS products.
  • Develop Android demo applications to highlight the integration between the Android operating system and the ESS chipsets.
  • Work with marketing and customer support to develop unique drivers to support one of a kind features.
  • Work directly on Android development hardware (Dragonboard).

Required Skills:

  • Experience with writing Linux kernel modules, preferably for the Android operating system.
  • Experience with writing Android applications and an understanding of the Android permissions system.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.  Able to communicate effectively with customers and the internal engineering and marketing teams.
  • Methodical approach to debugging complex software designs.
  • Familiarity with working in a programming team including fundamentals such as source control (git or SVN), documentation, code reviews and collaboration.

Experience Level:

  • BSEE or MSEE with 2+ years of relevant work experience.
