Nov 19th, 2025 – San Jose, California – ESS Technology, Inc., the industry leader in high-performance audio semiconductors, today announced the ES9841Q, a new cost-effective 4-channel analog-to-digital (ADC) designed to complement ESS’s high-performance portfolio built on its patented Hyperstream® architecture.

The SABRE® ES9841 is a synchronous, high-performance 4-channel ADC optimized for both professional and consumer applications. Leveraging ESS’s renowned Hyperstream architecture, the ES9841 delivers a True DNR of +122 dB and a THD+N Ratio of -115 dB per channel, (+125 dB True DNR, -115 dB THD+N Ratio in stereo mode) setting a new standard for performance in its class.

The device supports a wide range of digital audio output formats, including TDM, I²S, LJ, and S/PDIF, with sample rates up to 768 kHz. An enhanced analog PLL (APLL) with ultra-low jitter enables on-chip clock generation and can optionally eliminate the need for an external oscillator.

To further streamline system design, the ES9841 ADC integrates a PDM microphone decoder, eight pre-programmed digital filters with latency as low as 3.37/FS at a 48kHz sampling rate and an optional DC-blocking filter. Multiple control interfaces are supported, including standard I²C Slave, SPI Slave, and hardware-mode (HW) configuration to simplify programming. A Master SPI port is also included for external device control.

The ES9841 incorporates low-noise reference regulators, reducing bill-of-materials (BOM) costs and minimizing required PCB area. With its combination of audio performance, integration, and cost efficiency, the ES9841 sets a new benchmark for recording-grade ADCs.

The ES9841 is drop-in compatible with the previously released ES9840 and is offered in a compact 5 × 5 mm, 40-pin QFN package.
